FCCPC intervenes in latest DStv, GOtv tariff hikes

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has assured that the latest MultiChoice cable subscription tariff hike will be reviewed by relevant stakeholders to ensure that Nigerian subscribers enjoy the value for their money.

The Acting CEO of FCCPC, Adamu Abdullahi, said this on Thursday while featuring on Channels Television’s Dateline Abuja programme.

Recently, MultiChoice Nigeria increased the tariff on its DStv and GOtv packages. It said the increase became imperative, following the rise in the cost of business operations.

The company said the new tariff regime would take effect from May 1, 2024.

Based on the new tariff regime, the premium package on DStv, which was N29,500, would now go for N37,000, while the Compact Plus, which currently goes for N19,800, has been increased to N25,000.

Abdullahi also gave an update on the summons issued to the owner of a Chinese store in Abuja accused of discriminatory and sharp practices, leading to the shutting down of the shop.

In adherence to the order given to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), he declared that sanctions were imminent for all verified infractions identified by the agency.
